Missions

Welcome to Sovereign Grace Baptist Church's Mission Page.  We pray that your love for Missions will be fanned into a great flame as you read accounts of Missions world wide and read of opportunities for service.

We have received the following communication from Doug Nichols.  Please continue to pray for Haiti and for guidance as you give.

1. Special Giving to Haiti: Not All Relief is Created Equal.

In the wake of January 12's earthquake in Haiti, many people are considering
donating to relief agencies to provide help. This is very encouraging, and
decidedly the right thing to do -- Jesus reminds us that assisting those in
need is truly giving to God (Matt. 25:35-40).

As you consider donations, however, let me encourage you to give only to
churches or agencies that you know of who have solid relationships with the
evangelical Church in Haiti and experience working in that country. The
majority of the millions and millions of dollars that will go to Haiti thru
general relief agencies will likely wind up in the pockets of politicians
and thugs--something that, unfortunately has been the case with Haiti for
decades.

 2. Tim Tebow During Super Bowl.

Randy Alcorn is a friend of the Tebow family and writes the following on his
blog [http://randyalcorn.blogspot.com ]. "If you've followed the news
lately, you've probably heard about CBS's controversial decision to air a
prolife commercial produced by Focus on the Family during the Super Bowl,
telling the story of football star Tim Tebow and his mom Pam. (Read more
about Pam's courageous decision not to abort Tim at
http://www.beyondtheultimate.org/athletes/Tim-Tebow.aspx#) Good for CBS. And
I hope they don't cave in to the National Organization for Women who have
recently launched an effort to call on CBS to drop the ad. To encourage CBS,
you can send them a comment on their website
http://www.cbs.com/info/user_services/fb_global_form.php. I blogged about
Tim last year
http://randyalcorn.blogspot.com/2009/01/tim-tebow-jason-hanson-and-kurt-warn
er.html, and asked readers to pray for this young man. Please continue to
pray for Tim and his family-you can bet that they will be targeted for their
prolife stand."

3. Philippine MK Tim Tebow Super Bowl Commercial.

FOX News, January 26.

"College football phenom Tim Tebow is about to become one of the biggest
stars of Super Bowl XLIV - and he's not even playing in the game.

Tebow, the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback for the University of Florida,
and his mother Pam will appear in a pro-life commercial that tells the story
of his risky birth 22 years ago -- an ad that critics suggest could lead to
anti-abortion violence, even though none of them have seen it.

The 30-second spot, paid for by the conservative Christian group Focus on
the Family, is expected to recount the story of Pam Tebow's turbulent
pregnancy in 1987: When Tebow suffered from a dangerous infection during a
mission trip to the Philippines, doctors recommended that she terminate her
pregnancy, fearing she might die in childbirth. But she carried Tim to term,
and he went on to win the 2007 Heisman Trophy and guide the Florida Gators
to two BCS championships."

It's a happy story with an inspirational ending, but pro-choice critics say
Focus on the Family should not be allowed to air the commercial because it
advocates on behalf of a divisive issue and threatens to "throw women under
the bus."

Please pray for all those who are laboring and fighting in the trenches against
the murder of unborn babies world wide. May God help us!!
